At Sacramento State, we're fostering the next generation of artists who bring unique perspectives and innovative solutions to our community. Our Department of Art creates an environment where students thrive through hands-on learning in ceramics, new media art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and more. Our students don't just create art – they become leaders who shape the cultural landscape of Northern California.
Art Studio Lab
This year, we opened a brand-new art building, Art Studio Lab, where students have access to state-of-the-art facilities that match their talent and drive. This space houses our painting, drawing, and sculpture programs, along with dedicated studios for our Master of Fine Arts students. The new art building, paired with our recently elevated studio art programs positions Sacramento State as Northern California’s destination for an accredited and equitable arts education.
Your support can help turn our vision for Art Studio Lab into reality. By contributing, you're doing more than funding a space – you're investing in the next generation of artists who will shape our community's cultural landscape. Your generosity helps provide equitable access to advanced artistic education, ensuring that talented students have the tools and support they need to succeed, regardless of their background.
Your donations will also support a variety of creative programs, such as rotating sculpture exhibits in the new outdoor sculpture garden; student exhibitions in the common area; and scholarships for graduate students in our new MFA program. Give today to help shape the future of art education at Sacramento State.
Visiting Artist Program
When we launched our Art Department's Visiting Artist Program during the 2021 Day of Giving, we dreamed of creating meaningful connections between students and working artists. Today, our vision has become a reality that's transforming young artists' lives.
Through the Visiting Artist Program, we have brought contemporary artists to our campus to engage with our students through exhibitions, artist lectures, workshops, and invaluable one-on-one critiques. Through the immersive exhibitions visiting artists have created in our galleries, students didn't just observe the art; they witnessed its creation, asked questions, participated, and learned firsthand from professionals who've walked the path they aspire to follow.
Now, as we look to the 2025/26, we're reaching even higher. We know how critical it is for our students to engage with artists. We want to create more opportunities for this to happen throughout the academic year, by increasing the variety and scope of events that we host.
None of this happens without you. Our visiting artist program is entirely supported by your donations. Your gift to the Visiting Artist Program does more than fund artist visits and exhibitions—it opens doors. It creates career-defining moments when a student receives personalized feedback from a professional artist. It builds confidence through workshops, offers inspiration through lectures, and provides the real-world context that transforms students into artists.
Every dollar you give helps shape the next generation of artists. Will you join us in making these transformative experiences possible?
