Basic Needs

Supporting Students’ Basic Needs at Sacramento State

Meeting students’ basic needs is essential to student success. When students have reliable access to food and essential resources, they are better able to focus on learning, remain enrolled, and move confidently toward graduation.

Through campus-based programs, Sacramento State addresses food insecurity and access to essential items so students do not have to choose between meeting basic needs and continuing their education. These initiatives remove barriers, respond to urgent needs, and create an environment where students can focus on their studies and long-term success.

Together, these resources strengthen student wellbeing, promote equity, and support persistence across the University.

ASI Food Pantry

The ASI Food Pantry provides free groceries and essential items to students, ensuring no student has to choose between buying food and purchasing textbooks. Support helps stock fresh produce, dairy items, culturally responsive food options, and everyday essentials that allow students to focus on their education with dignity and confidence.

Student Basic Needs Resource Center

The Student Basic Needs Resource Center expands access to essential resources by providing food, personal hygiene products, clothing, and other necessities in a centralized, supportive space. This Center helps close opportunity gaps by ensuring students have what they need to maintain wellbeing and fully engage in their academic experience.

By supporting students’ basic needs, donors help create stability that fuels academic success. These investments ensure students can remain focused on learning, persist through challenges, and continue building toward graduation and meaningful futures.
