Supporting Students’ Basic Needs at Sacramento State
Meeting students’ basic needs is essential to student success. When students have reliable access to food and essential resources, they are better able to focus on learning, remain enrolled, and move confidently toward graduation.
Through campus-based programs, Sacramento State addresses food insecurity and access to essential items so students do not have to choose between meeting basic needs and continuing their education. These initiatives remove barriers, respond to urgent needs, and create an environment where students can focus on their studies and long-term success.
Together, these resources strengthen student wellbeing, promote equity, and support persistence across the University.
ASI Food Pantry
The ASI Food Pantry provides free groceries and essential items to students in a welcoming, judgment-free environment — ensuring no Hornet has to choose between paying for food and staying enrolled. Your support allows the Pantry to provide fresh produce, dairy, pantry staples, and culturally relevant items that help students maintain stability and focus on their education.
Every $75 donated turns into $300 worth of food through the ASI Food Pantry’s strong community partnerships in Sacramento — multiplying the impact of every gift.
This year, the Pantry is also raising $39,000 to expand its capacity to serve students year-round. Investments include a second set of after-hours pick-up lockers ($15,000), a new van loading ramp ($12,000), warehouse pallet shelving ($8,000), and retrofitting for the mobile pantry van ($4,000). These upgrades will increase efficiency, expand access, and allow the Pantry to serve more students when and where they need support.

Student Basic Needs Resource Center
The Student Basic Needs Resource Center expands access to essential resources by providing food, personal hygiene products, clothing, and other necessities in a centralized, supportive space. This Center helps close opportunity gaps by ensuring students have what they need to maintain wellbeing and fully engage in their academic experience.
