At Sacramento State, we believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to have a high quality STEM education. The unprecedented challenge we all face today makes even more clear the need for science literacy and the importance of training the next generation of professionals who will serve on the front lines of scientific and medical discovery, innovation and treatment.
The SURE Program is a paid summer research experience for undergraduate students. Working closely with a faculty mentor in their lab, students conduct research in biological sciences, chemistry, geology, geography, math and statistics, or physics and astronomy fields. These research experiences push students beyond the bounds of their existing knowledge, challenging their creativity, determination, and resourcefulness. It’s through these experiences that students come to truly understand and navigate the “messiness” of science – a process of trial, error and new discovery.
Undergraduate research can be one of the most important and rewarding experiences a student has during their time at Sacramento State’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Many Sacramento State students work while going to school, making it challenging to find time for other academic pursuits beyond the classroom. As a paid opportunity, the SURE Program helps alleviate the need for additional employment during the summer, allowing students to focus more fully on their research endeavors.
