At Sacramento State, we believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to have a high quality STEM education. The need for science literacy and scientific training is greater than ever before. Our students will go on and serve on the front lines of scientific and medical discoveries, innovation and treatment.
Through equity-based programs, the Center for Science and Math Success cultivates life-long learning skills, leadership development, and a sense of community. Our commitment to reimagining access to STEM education from K-12 through higher education is evident through our programs which approach the whole student – academically and personally - as well as enhance faculty teaching and scholarship on STEM education.
The Center for Science and Math Success is the hub for student success expertise in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The Center and our programs serve more than 2,000 students annually, and employ more than 100 students as program ambassadors and peer leaders. Key initiatives include:
- Hallmark programs like Commit to Study (C2S), Peer Assisted Learning (PAL), and Science Educational Equity (SEE) provide intervention advising, one-on-one mentoring, academic support, and social activities that build a sense of community.
- Peer leaders facilitate programs, enhancing their own leadership skills while serving fellow students. The Success Center brings together peer leaders from across all programs for joint trainings, workshops and other professional development experiences.
- The Grace Project provides essential course materials required for STEM courses, such as lab coats, calculators, safety goggles and other supplies to students who otherwise would be unable to afford them and unable to persist towards a STEM degree. This spring, thanks to donor support, we fulfilled 160 student requests!
You can support the Center or you can give directly to one of our programs. When you give to the Center, you help enhance all of our student programs, providing professional development training, workshops, and other leadership development opportunities to all of our student ambassadors.
