Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Give Sac State Day 2023.

What is Give Sac State Day?

Give Sac State Day is a 36-hour online fundraiser that aims to rally support for the University through gifts from our #HornetFamily to the cause(s) they hold most dear, thereby generating the greatest opportunities for our current and future students. Whether you stand behind higher education, health and wellness, closing equity gaps, all of the above, and so much more, you can be #allinforSacState by making a gift on Give Sac State Day.

If you have time, click around and get familiar with how Sacramento State is expanding our impact on the region. Please bookmark this page and add this day to your calendar. Come back to visit us anytime and to learn a bit more about what we do.

What are Challenge Gifts?

Challenges are created by very generous individuals and companies who have pledged funds to their favorite cause to create an incentive for others to give. Each challenge asks that a certain number of donors give to an area or cause to unlock the challenge gift of $1,000 or more. When the required number of donors make gifts to the specified area or cause, the challenge gift is unlocked.

Everyone's gift - no matter the amount - has the same power to unlock a challenge! Yes, that means that YOUR gift could be the difference.

How can I help spread the word?

You can help spread the word through your preferred social media channels by tagging your posts with #allinforSacState. Please let your family, friends, and colleagues know about Give Sac State Day and encourage them to participate by making a gift to their favorite cause.

If you'd like to become an official Ambassador for Give Sac State Day, and access the Ambassador toolkit, please click on the Ambassador option at the top of our page.

What are Ambassadors?

The success of Give Sac State Day will rely on our ability to spread the word through all available social media channels - Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Our ambassadors will play a key role in achieving that success.

Being an ambassador is as simple as posting on social media, sending an email to friends who may be interested, and/or distributing some flyers. When you become an ambassador, you'll have access to a variety of tools that you can use and customize to help us spread the word. Plus, it comes with some great gifts for your efforts along the way.

Where will my gift to Sacramento State go?

It is up to you - you can contribute towards your passion! Whether a college, department, cause, or student service program, you are providing opportunity and making a lasting impact on our students. You can designate a destination for your gift, or give to programs like the Sac State Greatest Needs Fund, the President’s Circle or the Dean’s Circle, in which funds are used to meet the University’s and specified Colleges’ most pressing needs.

Gifts designated to a specific College, Department or program will go to the specific fund supporting that program or area. Gifts must always be used in accordance with a donor's wishes and may not be reallocated to other programs without prior consent of the donor.

Are there other ways I can give?

Sacramento State accepts check/cash contributions. If you prefer to give this way, please notify our office so that we can update our Giving page and give you recognition on the Donor Wall if you would like.

Employees can set-up a payroll deduction by filling out this form.

You can also make recurring gifts to Sacramento State. The first installment will count towards our total, but we will also report on pledges to reflect your ongoing commitment.

I clicked on a department button and it took me to the “Donate” page. Can I make a gift on the Give Sac State Day platform after April 22 at 5 p.m.?

No, the “Donate” page will not be functional after Give Sac State Day ends on April 22 at 5 p.m. You may be able to access the “Donate” page after then, but you will not be able to complete your gift transaction. If you would like to make an online gift after April 22, please click here for the online giving site.

I see that there is a "Give Early" option. Will gifts made early count towards the Give Sac State Day totals? Will early gifts also count towards the various challenges?

Gifts made via the "Give Early" option will count towards the overall Give Sac State Day totals and the Challenges. The "Give Early" option is best for individuals who may not have computer or online access during Give Sac State Day.

What if the fund or program I want to donate to is not listed?

You will be able to select "other" during checkout and type in the fund of your choice. You will first need to select an option in the “Department or Program” drop down, so we suggest choosing the Sac State Greatest Needs Fund or a College, Department, or Program. Next, select "Other" in the “Fund Designation” drop down.  There will then be a place to type in the fund or program you would like to support.

Can I give to more than one area?

Yes, you can make gifts to up to four (4) funds when you check out. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes, the minimum donation amount is $5 per fund.

When will my card be charged?

Your credit or debit card will be charged immediately upon finalizing your online gift transaction.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Please consult with your tax attorney or financial advisor to determine if your gift is tax-deductible.

Yes! However, in order to ensure that we maintain appropriate tax data, you must indicate that you are using a company credit card and provide the name of the company that should receive tax information. Please note that the tax receipt emailed following this transaction should be forwarded to your company's appropriate personnel and cannot be used for personal tax benefit.

Can I make a donation using my personal card for my company who will reimburse me later, and have the company claim the donation and tax-deduction?

No. Unfortunately, we can only provide legal credit to the individual or entity that makes payment at the time of this transaction.
