We are proud to be the US News and World Report Nationally Ranked 15th Mechanical Engineering Program!
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) applies the principles of science and mathematics to the design of machinery and equipment used in the rapidly evolving areas including but not limited to, transportation, manufacturing and energy conversion. Balancing fundamentals, analytical methods, and design applications, the program prepares graduates for long‐term engineering careers.
The ME Department believes in the importance of hands‐on learning to build the skills and competencies necessary for graduates to be successful in the workforce. Therefore, ME offers its students hands‐on learning opportunities involving the design of all types of machines and equipment including vehicles used in ground, air, and space transportation; machines for the conversion of fuels into energy; food processing; consumer products; robots; biomedical devices; the machines used to manufacture all of the above; and the climate control of buildings. These opportunities prepare our students for employment and allow them to hit the ground running.
