Experiential Learning Opportunities

65th Street Corridor: The 65th Street Corridor Project is a high-impact and multi-component community effort aimed at increasing student academic achievement, fostering student leadership, and improving parent participation for children living in neighborhoods where gang violence, a lack of access to resources and low civic engagement create a need for innovative, culturally competent strategies.

Every year, the 65th Street Corridor invites Sacramento State students taking Ethnic Studies and Sac State Ethnic Studies majors to engage in this community service as a means of gaining practical leadership experiences, while providing meaningful and high impact service to the community. This project centers on the idea that life opportunities are directly linked to gaining access and engaging educational opportunities.

Bushy Lake Restoration Project: Beginning in 2015, the Bushy Lake Project seeks to contribute to the conservation of Bushy Lake, which is located on the lower American River Parkway, near Cal Expo. Since its inception, the project has flourished into an ongoing eco-cultural restoration project! Our Sacramento State students are able to join this project, to gain hands-on experience learning about wildlife habitats, culturally significant plants, and recreation.

Cardiovascular Wellness Program: The Cardiovascular Wellness Program is an exercise and education program directed to older individuals in the community with cardiovascular disease or those at risk. Behaviors are modeled that reflect four main pillars of health:   exercise, sound nutrition, stress management, and sense of community. The program is staffed by specialty volunteers and student interns, coming from multiple disciplines including Gerontology, Kinesiology, Nursing, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, and Psychology. The program provides students with firsthand experience and academic credit in a setting supported by interdisciplinary experts within a program designed by a renowned clinical cardiologist.

Sacramento Semester Program: The Sacramento Semester Program is an immersive, rigorous internship program designed for students interested in the policy-making process. We are extremely proud of our students in the Sacramento Semester Program. These students are passionate public servants who go on to become changemakers throughout the state capitol. Please consider a donation to the Sacramento Semester Program. Each dollar raised will go directly to our program and contribute to our students’ ability build their careers in public service.
