The Physical Therapy Program has existed at Sacramento State University for 29 years. It began as a baccalaureate program in 1995 and was accredited as a doctoral program in 2012. The program has always been dedicated to the success and professional development of all our students so that they are prepared to provide excellent, evidence-based, care to the diverse communities they serve. In our 29-year history, we have a 97% graduation rate, 100% pass rate on the national licensure examination, and 100% employment rate. The vast majority of our graduates pursue their entire career treating residents of our state.
Beyond its superb quality, the program is unique in it’s delivery of an interprofessional curriculum including 6 pro bono clinics (orthopedic, adult neurologic, pediatric, limb loss, wellness, and balance and fall prevention) and a community clinic in which volunteers from the community receive free physical therapy care by students under the supervision of licensed faculty. At graduation our students are already experienced in delivering team-based interprofessional care to their patients.
The physical therapy curriculum involves 9 consecutive semesters of education that includes 36 weeks of full-time clinical affiliation outside the university. The major impediment to our students realizing their dream of becoming a physical therapist is the high cost of a medical education. Please consider supporting the Regional, Equitable, Accessible, Community, Health (REACH) Clinic
The REACH clinic is a biweekly student run physical therapy clinic offered at Sacramento State University. The clinic consists of a student board and student physical therapists who are supervised by the physical therapy faculty.
The REACH Clinic is dedicated to providing physical therapy care to the community incorporating a network approach with community medical providers, policy makers, and allied health care providers. The clinic seeks to remove barriers to accessing physical therapy care in the Sacramento community. Access to physical therapy services regardless of insurance coverage is viewed as an opportunity to improve function and reduce future health care needs due to chronic conditions. The specific aims of the clinic include:
The REACH clinic started fall 2022 and is steadily growing! Please donate to the REACH clinic to support ongoing growth and expenses such as interpreting services, electronic medical record/documentation system, and equipment.
Please donate to the Reach Clinic and other opportunities within the Physical Therapy Department.
