Whether gazing deep into space at galaxies halfway across the universe, or projecting ultra-high-definition images of Earth, the Sac State Planetarium is sure to delight audiences as the centerpiece of the University's new Ernest E. Tschannen Science Complex.
The goal of the Planetarium is to inspire curiosity about space, astronomy, and the sciences by:
• Hosting field trips for school groups from grades kindergarten through high school
• Offering public shows and events at least one weekend a month; and
• Serving as home to the best lecture hall on campus for introductory astronomy courses, among the most in-demand general education courses at Sacramento State.
The Planetarium hosts 15 free field trips per week, ranging from 20-90 students each. Planetarium Coordinator Dr. Kyle Watters estimates we’ll serve nearly 23,000 K-12 students this year, which is all subsidized by Sacramento State. Additionally, the Planetarium is available to the general public for very modest fees due to our mission to educate and inspire our community.
These offerings are available, in part, due to generous donations from our alumni, faculty, and community members. With donor support, we can keep the ticket prices affordable for all – Sacramento State students and children 12 and under are free, and general admission tickets are only $5.
Any level of support is appreciated. Thank you in advance for donating to support the Planetarium!
A Seat Under the Stars campaign – There are 7 seats remaining in our campaign. For a donation of $1,000, a seat will be named in your honor. If you would like to be part of the campaign and name a seat, please include this in the note section when you make your donation.
