The Law Enforcement Candidate Scholars’ (LECS) program in the Division of Criminal Justice is a university-based, innovative 21st century scholars-to-officers program located on the campus of California State University, Sacramento. The LECS program is a first of its kind in the nation focusing on changing outcomes in law enforcement recruiting and preparation. Presently partnered with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Sacramento Police Department (SPD), the LECS program is an educational and professional development student program that builds strong connections with the community, provides academic, cultural and leadership development to assist diverse students with graduating in a timely manner, as well as preparing and transforming them to become equity-minded sworn law enforcement officers in the Sacramento region and throughout the state of California.
The LECS program has been on campus for more than four years and looks forward to continuing its great work years for many years to come. Now more than ever, our communities and beyond are counting on programs like LECS to support equity and commit to social justice. Philanthropy will be a part of this program’s success.
