The Sacramento State Guardian Scholars Program (GSP) is a comprehensive support program for students who are currently or have formerly experienced the foster care system. We also serve students who were unaccompanied minors designated by the McKinney Vento Act thus were considered unsheltered, and wards of the court.
GSP offers a welcoming and inclusive space for students to build community, additional access to academic assistance, personal support, and other services to achieve their goal of obtaining their college degree. GSP provides a wide range of services and support to help students through their educational journey at Sac State, such as case management, priority housing, advising, mentoring, priority registration, emergency funding, job & training opportunities, scholarships, housing assistance, resources & referrals, workshops, socials, and most importantly, a sense of belonging.
When you support the Guardians Scholars Program, your donations directly impact our students by:
• Providing healthy food to address food insecurities assistance
• Paying for out-of-pocket medical expenses
• Emergency assistance (e.g. housing deposits, transportation, internet, rental assistance, electricity, etc.)
• Graduation fees
• Parking permits
• School supplies & textbooks
• Graduation regalia
When GSP provides resources to our students, you are furthering their academic and professional growth to propel them in obtaining the skills necessary to become self-supporting adults, role models, community leaders, and competent professionals in their selected fields.
The Guardian Scholars Program is funded in part by the generous donations we receive from our community members and current donors. If it were not for our donors, our program would not be able to swiftly support our students through their financial and educational needs.
