"Experiential learning through research is an essential part of STEM education and the ability to present that work at conferences is an essential part of their growth. However, the costs often fall on the students. We want to change that."
-Dean Lisa Hammersley
The College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics (NSM) offers six robust academic programs:
A common challenge all six departments face is the ability to send promising students to conferences in their chosen fields.
Local and out-of-state conferences provide opportunities to learn from industry leaders, network with like-minded peers, and prepare for the workforce. But these opportunities have associated costs like travel and registration fees that may prevent promising students from attending. This college-wide need prompted Dean Lisa Hammersley to establish the NSM Student Travel Fund—a brand new NSM initiative and dean priority.
Donations to the NSM Student Travel Fund will offset significant expenses like airfare, hotel costs, registration fees, and ground transportation—removing a significant financial hurdle for our students.
Dean Lisa Hammersley is excited to debut this fund on Give Sac State Day 2024 and hopes to eventually support 20 students per year. Your donation of any amount can make an enormous difference in the lives of our students.
