Help students gain access to internships (GAIN) in government, public policy, civic engagement, and other public service fields by eliminating the financial obstacles that can prevent students from accepting unpaid internships.
Too often, Sacramento Sate students—who are 46% Pell Grant-eligible and 30% first-generation—are confronted with a difficult choice: keep a steady job needed for essential living expenses or take a temporary, unpaid but career building internships. This inequity is more salient when you consider that underrepresented minority students make up 50% of majors largely associated with government and non-profit sectors that don’t typically offer paid experiential learning.
Your support will help increase student equity and access to career opportunities by eradicating students’ agonizing choice between paying bills today and securing their professional futures.
