The University Galleries is an important cultural resource for visual art at Sacramento State and includes 3 exhibition spaces on campus: the Library Gallery, Robert Else Gallery and the R.W. and Joyce Witt Gallery. Our mission is to generate dynamic art experiences that inspire new thinking about art and the world. Each of our galleries draws on the collaborative and multidisciplinary ethos of Sacramento State and is a catalyst for student learning and community engagement.
The galleries are open to students, faculty, staff, and our surrounding communities during the academic year. We showcase work by regional, national, and international artists as well as work by our student artists. In addition, our programming includes artist lectures, panel discussions, workshops, student-led docent tours and much more.
The University Galleries is also the caretaker of the Sacramento State Art Collection which features over 500 artworks from artists as well-known as Pablo Picasso to local legend Wayne Thiebaud.
Your donations will help in many ways!
Student Employment Support – We employ 10-12 students as gallery attendants each semester. Students learn the ins and outs of mounting exhibitions, managing a gallery space, and interacting with the public about the exhibitions—valuable professional experience that will support them in future endeavors.
Maintenance and Care of the Art Collection - support for our collection enables us to provide a high-standard of care for the artwork and offer students and faculty access for study. We also want to grow our collection!
Exhibitions - What happens behind-the-scenes to produce an exhibition is more than you might think. Support our on-going commitment to develop thought-provoking and engaging exhibitions for our students and community.
